3 Questions Wednesday with Angela D. Meyer

head-shotToday’s guest on the Writing Prompts blog is Angela D. Meyer, author of The Applewood Hill Series.

Hi, Angela! So glad you dropped by. First question:

What books have fortified you as a writer? How?

AngelaSelf-Editing for Fiction Writers by Rennie Brown and Dave King and The First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman were both a tremendous help in learning how to present my manuscripts well.

The First 50 Pages by Jeff Gerke helped me understand what elements were important to include early (or avoid) in my novels to connect with my readers and hold their interest.

Getting into Character by Brandilyn Collins was one of the best I’ve read when it comes to understanding characterization beyond just plugging in expressions and mannerisms for the sake of what was typical for a certain emotion or personality.

I better leave it at that. If I add anymore, then I’ll end up sharing about every book in my writing arsenal.

Good choices. I just added the one by Brandilyn Collins to my Amazon wish list. 🙂

What secret talents do you have?

Angela: Do I dare say? Tying a knot in a cherry stem…with my tongue. Found that one out when fellow college students were sitting around bored and someone asked if anyone could do that. Never crossed my mind before that day, but come to find out, it was pretty easy for me.

Wow. I can say for sure that you’re the first (and probably only) one we’ve interviewed with this talent…

If we came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for us?

Angela: Pot roast with potatoes and carrots and a salad on the side is a favorite for our guests. Dessert would likely be fresh fruit and cool whip.

Yum! Sounds great. Thanks, Angela, for the visit…

Angela has offered to do an ebook (Kindle version) giveaway of Where Healing Starts. Please leave a comment to be entered…

  1. I’ve never tried tying a knot in a cherry stem with my tongue before, I’ll have to give it a go one day.

When Healing Starts sounds like a great read!
