Deshaies Profile Pic OneToday, we’d like to introduce new Crew Member Marisa Deshaies

(1) Welcome to the Writing Prompts Crew. Tell us a little about yourself.

Marisa: Hi everyone. My name is Marisa, and I am a professional editor, writer, and book reviewer. I recently joined the Writing Prompts Crew so I can interact with fellow authors and writers and meet people who love words, language, and books as much as I do.

(2) How did you become interested in being a writer?

Marisa: Wow, this question goes way back. In high school I decided I wanted to become a secondary education English teacher because I loved so much to read. I had high aspirations that I could be the one teacher that could change students’ lives and inspire them to love books as much as I did. Well, that career goal didn’t stay with me, and in my sophomore year of college I discovered—through God’s grace and my parents’ guidance—professional writing. I was never one called to write fiction, but once I discovered professional writing my whole world opened up to the possibilities of creative professional writing. My goals now focus on the editorial portion of publishing, but I have experience in all aspects of professional writing, from business and technical, to new media, to creative non-fiction, and more. I love it all!

(3) Can you tell us three unique things about you that we may not know?

Marisa: Hmm, this one’s hard since I feel like I share a lot with other people my age…but I’ll give it a shot. I’ve lived in seven states before graduating high school, and can for certainty say that I am an East Coast girl. World War Two is my favorite time period in history. Ever since I saw the movie Pearl Harbor at age thirteen, I’ve been fascinated by the people, culture, history, and politics of that time period. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice holds a special place in my heart. Aside from being my favorite novel, this story was the one that opened my eyes to the Classics and introduced me to a genre and time period I had been too intimidated to explore before my college years. Of course, Kiera Knigtley and Matthew MacFayden as the lead characters in the 2005 movie adaptation doesn’t hurt either.

Marisa Deshaies is a professional editor and book reviewer with too many books on her hands but never enough to keep her satisfied. Her favorite genres to read and review are contemporary and historical inspirational fiction, romance, and literature.

Marisa holds an M.A. in professional writing from New England College but her heart belongs to the University of Delaware, where she graduated with a B.A. in English, concentration in professional writing. She currently is an editor for Castle Gate Press and Astrea Press, and a book reviewer for LuxuryReading.com, TheChristianManifesto.com, Litfuse Publicity Group, and Christian Bookseller’s Association.

Marisa lives in Delaware with her parents and two younger brothers and a rambunctious but loveable miniature dachshund, Winston. She is a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, is obsessed with everything British—including the royal family, Jane Austen novels, and period-piece films—and, most importantly, loves God with everything she has and aspires to use her writing gifts for Him.
